Escort and Transportation

Transportation is one of the biggest worries for older adults. Paying for cabs and struggling with buses can be a big challenge. Volunteers can help by driving seniors to the store, pharmacy or doctors appointments. They can have a regular assignment or just be on-call to help when able.

As one volunteer says:

"The lady I take grocery shopping every two weeks is in her nineties and is greatly appreciative of what I do. I also enjoy seeing her."

Van Driver

Be king of the road driving the Senior Services van around town, taking older adults to doctors appointments, grocery stores and senior centers. With the help of volunteers, Senior Services has been able to operate one additional van, which means about 20 more seniors per day are able to get to their appointments. Volunteers help weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. They can drive one day a week, part of day, every other week, or be on-call.

Here's what two volunteers say about why they volunteer:

"I think Senior Transportation is a vital function of Senior Services. Many of our senior clients comment on how much they appreciate the service and could not get to their health-care provider any other way."

"Every time I drive a senior to their doctor or senior center and then home, I enjoy knowing that I'm helping someone and hopefully making their life a little easier or more pleasant."
