Meals-on-Wheels

Senior Services of Northern Kentucky's Meals-on-Wheels program provides either one hot, cold or shelf stable meal to an eligible adult age 60 years or older. The meal meets or exceeds 1/3 of an adult's daily recommended dietary allowance.  At least fifty percent of the service is the daily assurance of having a trained paid staff member or volunteer check on the welfare of the client daily. Service begins following a home visit and screening by a qualified worker. The meals are pre-plated by our food contractor and the food is delivered from the central kitchen. The meals are then delivered to the clients' homes between the hours of 11:00a.m. - l:00 p.m. in coolers and carry-bags by both volunteer and paid staff.  The person delivering the meal must see the client, not just drop off a meal. A person 60 or older and their spouse is eligible, if either by illness or incapacitating disability is unable to prepare a meal, there is no one in the home to prepare a meal for them on a regular basis and they are unable to attend a senior center.  A non-elderly, disabled person is eligible if they are the spouse of an eligible client.  Handicapped adult children who reside at home may also be eligible for the meal.

Congregate Meals
The congregate meal program's main purpose is to provide a nutritious meal to adults 60 years and older.  The congregate meal is either one hot or cold meal or box lunch that meets or exceeds 1/3 of an adult's daily-recommended dietary allowance. Service begins when an eligible person first visits the center.  A lunch reservation is required and must be made before noon the day before one plans to attend the center.  There is no waiting list for the program. The center manager and their volunteer staff serve meals at all of our senior centers located in the eight counties of Northern Kentucky.  The food is prepared at our central kitchen located at 1032 Madison Ave., Covington by our food contractor and transported to the meal sites. Anyone 60 years of age or older and their spouse are eligible regardless of age and disabled residents who reside in a senior complex where we have a meal site.  Handicapped adult children who reside at home may also attend with their eligible parents and volunteers of any age.

Payment for meals is provided on a sliding fee scale basis or when financial circumstances permit can be ordered and paid for as a Private Pay client.

Volunteers are always welcome to help deliver these meals. A few hours of your time could make all the difference in the world to a frail, homebound elderly individual. Sometimes our staff member or volunteer might be the only contact the older adult has with the outside world on a daily basis.
